John E. Mockabee, 90; of Marysville


— Funeral services for John E. Mockabee, 90, of Marysville, will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Scottsburg with the Rev. Don Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow at Scottsburg Cemetery. He died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, in Marysville. There will be a graveside military service.

He was born Nov. 2, 1922, in the District of Columbia. He spent 32 years in the military, retiring from the military and also retired from Civil Service and was a former mechanic. His memberships included St. Augustine Catholic Church in Jeffersonville, Knights of Columbus in Jeffersonville, a former member of Holy Name Society, former volunteer with Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Department, and former member of Scottsburg High School Band Parents; GWRAA (Gold Wing motorcycle). He was a veteran of World War II in the 101st Airborne of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife Pauline H. Mockabee of Marysville; son David Ray Mockabee and wife Sharron, of The Villages, Fla.; daughters Janice Marie Pyle, of The Villages, Fla., Frances Jean Lee and husband David, of Sellersburg; Cynthia Ann Combs and husband Kent, of Marysville; eight grandchildren Mary Katherine Sheridan, Megan Kristine McMechan, Jennifer Ann Fenimore, Jeri Lynn Carlyle, Clifford Allen Lee, Paul David Gebus-Mockabee, John Shelby Combs and Casey Joe Combs; nine great-grandchildren Michael Keith Sheridan, Molly K Sheridan, Cory Allen Whitt, Hannah Nicole Fenimore, Zach John Fenimore, Alexandra Lee Carlyle, Patrick Archer Carlyle, Ciaran David Gebus-Mockabee and Nenagh Gebus-Mockabee; and one great-great grandchild, Cadence Whitt

He was preceded in death by his parents and great-granddaughter Victoria P. Carlyle

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today [Thursday] and 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at Stewart & Hoagland Funeral Home in Scottsburg.
