Jessie E. Tomes Sr., 73; of Corydon


Funeral services for Jessie E. Tomes Sr., 73, of Corydon, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home, Corydon, with burial in Wolfe Cemetery, Georgetown. He died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at his home with family and friends surrounding him. 

He was born in Edmonson County, Ky., on Nov. 18, 1939, the son of Dewey E. and Myrtle V. Sanders Tomes. He was a retired truck driver and a member of First Capitol Christian Church. He was a supply pastor for Riddle United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Indiana Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife, Sallie Jo Tomes; his mother, Myrtle Tomes, of Georgetown; three sons, Scott Tomes and his wife, Carrie, Jessie E. Tomes, Jr. and his wife, Becky, both of New Albany, and Donald D. Stallings and his wife, Amy, of Jeffersonville; three daughters, Linneau George and her husband, Joe, of Louisville, Rhonda Zink and her husband, Robin, of New Albany, and Tammy Sales and her husband, Marshall, of Lake Hills, Texas; five brothers, Leroy Tomes and his wife, Nancy, of Lanesville, James Tomes and his wife, Phyllis, of Georgetown, Larry Tomes and his wife, Linda, of Louisville, Roger Tomes and his wife, Jan, of Indianapolis, and Ronnie Tomes and his wife Banita, of Clarksville; five sisters, Judy Taylor and her husband Charles, of Corydon,  Glenna Toliver, of Madison,  Sherry Richmond and her husband, Ron, of Garland, Texas, and Cathy Tomes and Laura Tomes, both of Georgetown; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dewey E. Tomes, a daughter, DeAndrea Lynn Tomes, and a brother, Billy Ray Tomes.

Visitation will be from 2  to 8 p.m. Thursday, and after 9 a.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

The family suggest in lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the family for burial expenses.
