Thomas J. ‘Tater’ Banet, 86; of New Albany

A funeral Mass for Thomas J. “Tater” Banet, 86, of New Albany, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New Albany, with burial in St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Cemetery, Floyds Knobs. He died Sunday, May 19, 2013,  at his  home with his family by his side

  The son of the late Joseph and Eva Zimmerman Banet, he was born July 5, 1926, in Floyds Knobs. He was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Albany, St. Mary’s Men’s Club and thoroughly enjoyed the church Bible study group. He was a loyal volunteer at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany for 25 years and for 22 years, cardiac rehab at Floyd Memorial was a center of his life. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family and the Catholic faith, his quick wit, contagious smile, love of the outdoors and cunning card playing skills.    

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, E. Anne Goodyear Banet; children, Thomas Banet and his wife, Gail, Gerry Banet and his wife, Paige, and Rebecca Banet and her partner, Marje Albohm; sister, Marietta Gesenhues; brother, Arthur Banet; grandchildren, Greg, Nathan, Benjamin, Alison, Noah, Benjamin, Austin and Abby; and great-grandchild, Chase.

 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Sue; and siblings, Amelia Leist and Anthony, Alfred, Irvin, Bernard, James and Odell Banet.  

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New Albany.

Kraft Funeral Services, Spring Street Chapel, New Albany, is in charge of arrangements.

Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New Albany or Hosparus of Southern Indiana.
