A memorial service for Donald Spears, 81, of Jeffersonville, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at the Kingdom Hall, 1807 E. 10th Street, Jeffersonville. He died Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Hillcrest Village, Jeffersonville.
He was born July 23, 1931 to the late Raymond and Christine Spears in Louisville. He was retired from the construction industry but was also known as a teacher of public speaking and literacy. He was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses and enjoyed organic gardening (before it was popular), and was a calm and quiet man with a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his daughter, Donna Hewitt; a son-in-law, Philip Hewitt; two sisters, Mary Ann Nevitt and her husband, Junior; Millie Dye and her husband, Jim; a cousin, Myrtle Caroline Barker; and several nieces and nephews that loved their Uncle Donnie.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Spears; a sister, Doris Morgan Drury; and a brother, Robert Spears.
