Melvin George Williams, 57; of Louisville

A homegoing for Melvin George Williams, 57, of Louisville, will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at Brighter Day Anderson Temple Church of God in Christ, Jeffersonville, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Jeffersonville. He went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 21, 2013. 

He was born on June 4, 1955, in Jeffersonville, to Ruth Rhodes Williams and the late Rev. Cleveland Roosevelt Williams Sr. He was a deacon and long-time member of Kingdom Land Baptist Church in Louisville. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Laborers International Union 576.

He is survived by four sons, Melvin G. Williams Jr., Cleveland D. Williams, Drashawn L. Redd, and Julian Williams; two special daughters, Deidra and Micky Gordon; companion, Angelica Fowler; four sisters, Ella L. Williams, Supervisor Carolyn A. Anderson and her husband, George, Carrie J. Williams, and Rev. Maureen T. McGill and her husband, James; three brothers, Robert L. Williams Sr. and his wife, Dianna, Michael A. Williams, and Bobby Joe Lassiter;  and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Friday, May 24, at the church.

Newcomer Funeral Home, New Albany, is in charge of arrangements.

Contributions in Melvin’s memory may be made to the Kingdom Land Baptist Church, 1822 S. 11th Street, Louisville, Ky.
