Stanley S. Brandt Ph.D, 91; of Floyds Knobs

Funeral services for Stanley S. Brandt Ph.D., 91, of Floyds Knobs, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at Kraft Funeral Service, Charlestown Road Chapel, New Albany, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. He  died Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services, New Albany.

Dr. Brandt was born June 11, 1921 in Ackley, Iowa to the late Christian and Viola Stacey Brandt and married Caroline, his wife of 70 years, on Aug.  4, 1943.  He received his masters and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa and was a chemical engineer with E. I. DuPont Co. and Sandoz Agro Co. until his retirement in 1990. He was a quiet man with great wit and a sense of humor. He loved planes, flying, jazz and most of all his wife and family. He was an accomplished Dixieland jazz authority and musician and enjoyed traveling to jazz festivals throughout the country. Since 1995, he served as president of the New Albany-Floyd County Indiana Building Authority and currently was a consultant for them. He belonged to Alpha Chi Sigma, was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Southeast Christian Church. He will be greatly missed by his family, the community and all who knew him. 

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Caroline B. Kampmann Brandt; children, Charlynn T. Brandt, Pamela G. Brandt , and Paul S. Brandt and his wife, Chantell; grandchildren,  Britney and Aslyn Brandt; and brother, Stanton Brandt and his wife, Marge.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 10 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
