Charles J. Ridenour, 82; of Sellersburg

Funeral service celebrating the life of Charles J. Ridenour, 82, of Sellersburg, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, Oak Street Chapel, New Albany, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. He died Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Clark Memorial Hospital. 

He was a native of Bluffton, and retired from the Louisville Cement Company (now Essroc) after 43 years of service. He had a distinguished military career in the National Guard and the National Guard Reserves where he served as a Brigadier General. He was very active with the Silver Creek Township Kiwanis Club, having served on numerous state and international committees, and served as Kiwanis Governor for the State of Indiana in 1984. He was active in many political and philanthropic organizations, having received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Leadership Southern Indiana, the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Red Cross in 2006 and the Sagamore of the Wabash award. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, having served as a van driver, usher and on the memorial committee. 

Survivors include his daughter, Denise Koenig and her husband, Keith; and a brother, William W. Ridenour Jr.

 He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Norma Dickerson Ridenour. 

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Kiwanis International, Trinity United Methodist Church or the YMCA.
