A celebration of life service for Thomas Marshall Edwards Jr., 65, of Evansville, will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at The Villas, 4500 Theatre Drive, Evansville. A full military service with honors will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 8, at New Albany National Cemetery, followed by a celebration of his life from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Scott Funeral Home, Jeffersonville. He died Sunday, March 3, 2013, at his home.
He was born July 9, 1947 in Jeffersonville, to Tom Edwards Sr. and Betty Phelps Edwards, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a Vietnam Veteran and earned medals of commendation for his duty to his country. He served as Fire Chief for the McCullough Fire Department, and was Director of Operations in the field of Waste Water Treatment prior to retirement. He was blessed with two beautiful marriages in his life. He was married to Dianne Horn Edwards from 1969 until her death in 1991.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Spires Slone Edwards, married in 1996; four daughters, Pam Edwards-Hall and her husband, Tony, Carrie Edwards-Brown and her husband, Shawn, Sharon Spires-Sarchenko, and Cathy Spires-Nokes and her husband; a son, Steve Spires and his wife, Traci Flickner-Spires; four sisters, Patty Edwards Rhoades-Leverich, Doris Edwards-Bean, Janet Edwards-Petty, and Kathy Edwards-Smith; one brother, Bill Edwards; and 12 grandchildren, Haylee Hall, Ray Brown, Sarah Brown, Stephen Lamar, K.C. Lamar, Garrett Nokes, Emma Nokes, Zavier Spires, Zoie Spires, and Zander Spires. He played an important role in raising grandchildren Katie and Keith Sarchenko, which he held close to his heart. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather as well as a friend to many.
In lieu of flowers the family is taking donations towards a scholarship that will be formed in his honor.
