A memorial service for Ralph W. Barrer Jr., 82, of Jeffersonville, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Scott Funeral Home’s North Chapel, Jeffersonville. He died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at Westminster Health Care.
He was born in Peoria, Ill., retired from Cellofoil Corporation, and was a member of First Christian Church, Jeffersonville. He was also a member of the Jeffersonville Evening Optimist Club, American Legion Post 35 where he served on the Board of Directors, a Lifetime member of the VFW Post 1832 and a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served on the USS Knapp and USS Yellowstone.
He is survived by his four sons, Kevin A. Barrer and his wife, Donitta, of Indianapolis, David W. Barrer and his wife, Sharon, of Louisville, Stephen R. Barrer and his wife, Bridgette, of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Richard C. Barrer and his wife, Diana, of Royal Oak, Mich.; two sisters, Joan Carrigan and her husband, Kenneth, of Peoria, Ill., and Janet Potts, of Peoria, Ill.; and 10 grandchildren, James, Andrew, Daniel, Christopher, Elizabeth, Kaitlin, Eileen, Aidan, Spencer and Athena.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee Barrer; and his parents, Ralph Sr. and Roberta Barrer.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.
Internment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria, Ill.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Jeffersonville Optimist Youth Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
