James S. McDowell

85; of Jeffersonville

— Funeral services for James S. McDowell, 85, of Jeffersonville, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Coots Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. He died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at Clark Memorial Hospital.

 He graduated from Jeffersonville High School in 1945. He was a member of A.A.R.P., Jeffersonville American Legion Post 35, Antique Radio Association, and First Baptist Church. He was a retired salesman for Southland Electrical Supply in Louisville, and was an Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy A. McDowell, of Jeffersonville; sons, Rick McDowell, of Upton, Ky., Robert Lee McDowell, of Louisville, James McDowell and wife, Cris, of New Albany; daughters, Rebecca Steinrock and husband, Mike, of Louisville, Gina Lee Hughes and husband, Bob, of Louisville, and Keeley A. Foster and husband, Mark, of Charlestown; stepdaughter, Lisa Strother, of Louisville; stepsons, John W. Carl and wife, Cheryl, of Louisville, and Brent A. Carl, of Jeffersonville; 28 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and many other beloved relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert C. McDowell and Anna Lee McDowell; his sister, Anna Lee McDowell; brother, Huston Morlan; and half brothers, Kenny Morlan and Buddy Morlan.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and after 10 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to First Baptist Church of Jeffersonville and Day Springs of Louisville, Kentucky.
