Doris M. Fair

93; of Jeffersonville

Doris M. Fair, 93, of Jeffersonville, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany.

She was born April 23, 1919, in Antwerp, Ohio. She was a daughter of Harry and Amy DeCamp Boesch.  She graduated from Antwerp High School in 1936.

In 1940 she moved to Clarksville after marrying the late Charles Fair, her husband for 67 years.  She lived there and in Jeffersonville the rest of her life except for recent years at Providence. Also, during World War II she lived in the state of Washington where her husband worked on the Manhattan Project.

Doris was a member of Wall Street United Methodist Church in Jeffersonville for 70 years. She was involved in many private organizations in Jeffersonville such as Study Club, a bridge club for 65 years, and she enjoyed playing golf at the Elks Club course for 50 years. She was a parent, homemaker and lifelong artist who painted watercolor florals until her eyesight failed her. She also worked full-time outside the home between 1958 and 1973 doing clerical work for an insurance company in Louisville and the U.S. Census Bureau in Jeffersonville.

Survivors include three daughters, Susan Fair, of Connecticut, Kathleen Banks, of Arizona, and Louisa Janovicz, of Carmel;  four grandchildren  Ted Bourne, of New York City, Amy Bourne and Lara Newens, of California, and Jennifer Banks, of Nevada; three great grandchildren; a sister, Louise Landi, of Virginia; and a sister-in-law, Lois Wulf, of Florida.  

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff for all the good care that their mother and grandmother received at Providence Retirement Home for several years.  In lieu of flowers donations in her memory can be made to Wall Street United Methodist Church at 240 Wall St., Jeffersonville, 47130.

A family remembrance of her life will be held in the near future.
