Funeral services for Charles August Friedel Jr., 84, of New Albany, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, Market Street Chapel, New Albany, with private interment. He was called home by his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at his home.
He was born Dec. 26, 1928, in Spencerville, Ohio, to Charles and Viola Lakes Friedel. He was a retired self-employed machinist. He was a master diesel mechanic and was owner / operator of Charlie’s Truck and Repair Shop in Louisville. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and Korean War veteran with the U.S. Army.
The family of Charles would like to give a special thanks to a dear friend and neighbor, Brenda Egge who visited, baked pies and cakes. Brenda brought joy and kindness to Charles in his illness. Thanks and God bless Brenda. Another special thanks to Amedisys Hospice Care, especially, Kim Leyva, R.N., Beth Anderson, social worker and James Santos, chaplain. Thanks for the excellent care for our husband, father and grandfather, God bless all of you.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Evelyn Pope Friedel; three daughters, Linda Asher, Debbie Underwood, and Sherrie Hale; four stepdaughters, Janice Sweet, Patricia Cole, Cynthia Plowman and Susie Nalley; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine Friedel; two sons, Michael and Steven Friedel; stepson, Perry Pope; and sister, Evelyn Arnold.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 10 am – 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes.
