Jerry L. Birge

73; of Sellersburg

— A celebration of life service for Jerry L. Birge, 73, of Sellersburg, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at Graceland Baptist Church Apex, New Albany. He entered eternal life on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at his home.

 He was born in Centralia, Ill., and moved to Southern Indiana in the mid 1960’s. He started in the Elevator Industry in 1965 and retired with 40 accumulated years. During that time he served IUEC Local 20 in different capacities, including president and trustee. He was very active in the education program apprentices for many years. He was a member of Graceland Baptist Church for 30 years and was very active in the church recreation ministry where he was lovingly referred to as “Commissioner of T-Ball.” He volunteered at Kosair Children’s Hospital the last several years of his life, affectionately known as “The Candy Man.” He will be sadly missed by all his friends there.   

Survivors include his loving wife, Linda Lampert Birge; and a son, Blaire Birge and his wife, Sarah, of Sellersburg.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, March 23, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to WHAS Crusade for Children.
