Rowena Elizabeth (Caywood) Ingram, 95; of New Albany

— Funeral services for Rowena Elizabeth (Caywood) Ingram, “Granny,” 95, of New Albany, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at Spring Valley Funeral Home, New Albany, with burial to follow in West Haven Cemetery. She died March 25, 2013.

She was born on Dec. 4, 1917, in Mt. Sterling, Ky., to the late Thomas D. and Carlillie (Moore) Caywood. On June 28, 1943, she married William B. “Jack” Ingram.

She was a member of Portland Memorial Baptist Church since 1927, where she served as Sunday School pianist and was a member of Missionary Society. She graduated from the Catholic Colored High School, Lauretta College in Beauty Culture in 1944, and Tuckers Barber and Beauty College as an instructor in cosmetology in 1955. She attended JCC in early childhood education and obtained a childcare administrator certification. She also owned and operated a beauty shop at 32nd and Young Street. She was also very active in Foster Grandparents Program. She tutored and assisted in various school classrooms throughout Louisville. She left to cherish her memories to a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
