Dr. Ralph E. Hostetler

85; North Port, Fla.

Dr. Ralph E. Hostetler, 85, North Port, Fla., died Feb. 25, 2014, at the home of his wonderful caregivers, Lucy and Mike Dyer, North Port, Fla.

He graduated from New Washington High School in 1946 and joined the U.S. Navy in May serving two years at Virginia Beach, Va. He was a member of American Legion. He received his B.S., M.S. and PhD from colleges in Indiana, Kentucky and New York. He taught school for Greater Clark County Schools and became assistant superintendent in Jeffersonville, Indianapolis and Punta Gorda, Fla.

Survivors include sons, Gary Hostetler, Indianapolis, and Larry Hostetler and his wife, Sharon, Henryville; granddaughters, Carrie and Cortney; great-grandchildren, Alex, Sam, Lindsey, and Jake ; sisters, Barbara Beavers and her husband, Bill, Deputy, Donna Hammond and her husband, Bob, Otisco, Marilyn Taylor and her husband, Bob, North Vernon, and Joan Amick, North Vernon; and aunts, Eleanor Bossey, Nabb, and Ester Briggs, Colorado Springs, Colo., and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, “Pop” Joe and Inez Stearns, Jack Stearns, Norma Redmond and Kathleen “Boots” Shaw.

Cremation was chosen with him being returned to his love of the Sea, the Gulf of Mexico.
