Walter K. Smith, Sr. 74; New Albany

— Funeral services for Walter K. Smith Sr., 74, New Albany, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Greater Mount Zion Apostolic Church, New Albany, with burial in West Haven Cemetery, New Albany. He died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013.

 He was an avid gardener and an extremely talented mechanic. He was born  Feb. 2, 1939 in Adairville, Ky., to the late Clinton B. Smith and Eleanor Kendrick Smith Cotton.   

He is survived by his children, Deborah Jackson, Walter K. Smith, Jr. and his wife, Christy, Denise Kuykendoll and her husband, Randy, Eleanor Smith, Kathleen Hipsher and her husband, Wendell, and Eddie Smith; siblings, Clinton, Cordell, Henry, Mary Smith, Peggy White, Geneva Fields, Eva Hunter, Margaret Croudep, and Patricia Robinson; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings, Rena McPhetters, James Smith, and Ethel Bellamy.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Newcomer Funeral Home, New Albany.
