Joseph ‘Mick’ Schickel

New Albany

 A funeral Mass for Joseph “Mick” Schickel, New Albany, will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 16, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, New Albany, with burial in Holy Trinity Cemetery, New Albany. He died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at his home following a lengthy illness.

 He was an avid golfer and beloved husband, father and grandfather. He graduated from Our Lady of Providence High School, class of ’57 and was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. He served two years in the U.S. Army where he played on the Army golf team. He loved the game. He retired from Rhone Poulenc after the company moved out of state. He then began part-time work at Home Depot for the next 17 years. He loved Tool Rental and all his “buddies” at the Home Depot.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Hatch Schickel; two daughters, Dianna Kusters and Johan, Cedar Park, Texas and Wendy Kaiser and Paul, New Albany; five grandchildren, Mackenzi Kusters and Will, Weston, Jacob and Grace Kaiser; two brothers, Robert “Bob” Schickel and Carolyn, David Schickel and Phyllis; a sister, Jackie Brannon; a sister-in-law, Patsy Schickel; and a sister by love, Gerri Sakata, all of New Albany; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Schickel, four brothers, George, Charles “Sonny,” Bernard “Barney” and John “Pat” Schickel, and a sister, Mary Ellen Currin. 

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m., Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday, at Kraft Funeral Service, Charlestown Road Chapel, New Albany.
