James Gilbert ‘Gib’ Hawkins

88; Floyds Knobs

— Funeral services for James Gilbert ‘Gib’ Hawkins, 88, Floyds Knobs, will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, Market Street Chapel, New Albany, with entombment in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. He died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at the Hosparus Inpatient Unit at the Norton Pavilion, Louisville.

  He was a native of Kentucky and a retired vice-president of Swifty Oil Company. He was a Navy veteran of World War II having served first in the Atlantic Ocean Theatre and later on the battleship USS Alabama in the Pacific Theatre. He was a plank owner of the USS Alabama. He was an Honorable Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice S. Farris Hawkins; a son, James S. Hawkins, New Albany; two daughters, Evelyn Sue Hawkins, New Albany, and Sheri L. Hawkins, Shawnee, Kan.; brother, Charles Hawkins, New Albany; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and after 11 a.m. Monday, at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hosparus of Southern Indiana.
