Benjamin J. Barnhart

78; Sellersburg

Funeral services for Benjamin J. Barnhart, 78, Sellersburg, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Garr Funeral Home, Sellersburg, with burial in Sellersburg Cemetery. He died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at Providence Retirement Home, New Albany.

  He was a member of Sellersburg United Methodist Church, a past President of Optimist Club, worked for Scientific Research Administration at the U.S. Department of Energy, office of Health & Biological Research in Germantown, Maryland and Washington D.C., and was involved in a number of scientific organizations. He owned and operated a Flooring Retail Shop.

Surviving include his wife, Shirley Stepp Barnhart; son, Jamison Barnhart, Sellersburg; daughter, Elizabeth Rae Barnhart, Marina del Rey, Calif.; and brother, Ronald Barnhart, Elkhart.

   He is preceded in death by his mother, Katherine Monger Barnhart.

 Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, and after noon Saturday, at the funeral home.

  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Sellersburg United Methodist Church in honor of Benjamin.
