John “Hoss” W. Fields, 81; New Albany

A funeral service for John “Hoss” W. Fields, 81, New Albany, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Kraft Funeral Service, Charlestown Road Chapel, with entombment at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. He died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013. 

He was born June 15, 1932, in Mayking, Ky., to the late John Dishmond and Susie Polly Fields. John retired from General Electric Appliance Park after some 38 years of service, and after retirement worked for the New Albany-Floyd County school system. John dearly loved his wife of 57 years, Betty, and was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. He loved golf, UK basketball, and was a very talented musician. 

He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and a member of the VFW, the American Legion, and was a longtime member of Main St. United Methodist Church. 

Survivors include his wife, Betty Fields; two sons, J. Dishmond Fields and his wife, Sarah, and George Fields and his wife, Suzie; five grandchildren, Courtnie Cunningham (Roy III), Keith and Dishmond Fields, Kena Rickard (Caleb) and Mallorie Mugler (Keith); five great-great-grandchildren, Rylee, Laynie and Conlee Cunningham, Abram Rickard and Mollie Mugler; a sister, Minnie Hall; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Rex and Lon Fields. 

Reception of family and friends will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
