Donald E. Thompson, 78; Jeffersonville

— A memorial service and funeral Mass celebrating the life of Donald E. Thompson, 78, Jeffersonville, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Jeffersonville. He died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at Clark Memorial Hospital.  

He was born Oct. 24, 1934, in Jeffersonville to LeRoy (Tuck) and Wilhelmina (Minnie) Thompson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served immediately following the Korean War. He worked at Ohio Valley Tube Co., Baxter Tube Co. and General Electric at Appliance Park. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the morning coffee group at Jerry’s restaurant, Jeffersonville, and was very active in flea market sales.

Survivors include his loving wife Mary Rose Book Thompson; daughter Dawn; his favorite four-legged family member Shazooka (Peanut); two brothers, John and Charles Thompson; and two sisters, Judy Marcell and Vickie Browning. In addition, Donald had many nieces and nephews who will miss his help and advice. He will be greatly missed by his family, relatives and his coffee-drinking and flea market buddies.   

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, Richard and Kenneth Thompson; and two sisters, Betty Wiley and Wanda Densford.

Visitation begins at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church and a luncheon will follow the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in memory of Donald to Sacred Heart Church for future Masses in his honor.
