Donald L. Harbeson Sr.

84; Georgetown

A funeral Mass for Donald L. Harbeson Sr. 84, Georgetown, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lanesville, with burial in St. Mary’s Church Cemetery. He died Wednesday, Sept.11, 2013, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services, New Albany.

 He was born in Corydon, on March 24, 1929, the son of Claude Sr. and Effie Gehlbach Harbeson. He was an Army veteran and an employee of Brown & Williamson in Louisville for 25 years and retired from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville as maintenance and groundskeeper after 20 years. He was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include five sons, Roger Harbeson and his wife, Karen, Georgetown, Donald Harbeson Jr. and his wife, Kimberly, Lexington, Ky., Neil Harbeson and his wife, Lisa, Prairieville, La., Thomas Harbeson and his wife, Bobbie, Floyds Knobs, and Kevin Harbeson and his wife, Paula, Greenville; a daughter, Mary Smith and her husband, Steve, Lanesville; a brother, Joe Harbeson, Corydon;15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Bezy Harbeson, eight brothers and five sisters.

Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, and after 9 a.m. Monday, at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home, Georgetown. A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home. Military rites will be held at the graveside.

The family suggests memorial gifts be made to either Hosparus or to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lanesville.
