A funeral Mass for Donald E. McCartin, 85, of New Albany, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, New Albany, with entombment to follow in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. He died Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.
Don was the founder of McCartin Real Estate in New Albany for some 60 years and was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a founding member of the Southern Indiana Board of Realtors, past member of the Lions Club of New Albany and lifelong member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He served in the past on the Floyd Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, was a former member of the Floyd County Council, the New Albany City Council and the Floyd County Building Authority. Don was also a member of the Bonnie Sloan Post #28 American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Cardinal Ritter Council Knights of Columbus and the Redmen Club, all in New Albany. He was a lifelong member of the Democratic Party and was an inductee of the Southern Indiana Board of Realtors Hall of Fame.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Viola (Bell) “Big” McCartin; seven children, Kay Grube, Debbie Butterweck, Gary McCartin and his wife Donna, Steve McCartin and his wife Sarah, Greg McCartin, Richard McCartin and his wife Paula, and Diane Benedetti and her husband Michael; he was the proud grandfather of 22, including, Amy, Aaron, Ali, Brad, Brian, Matthew, Michael, Ryan, Lauren, Chad, Blake, Lindsey, Mary Michael, Nicklaus, Alex, Wesley, Kyrah, Christopher, Andrew, Justin, Michael and Erin. He was also great-grandfather of 16. The family would like to express their gratitude for the compassionate care provided by Doris Smith.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Lorena and Fred McCartin Sr.; two brothers, Fred Jr. and James a sister, Shirley Mull; and son-in-law, William Butterweck.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, at Kraft Funeral Service, Spring Street Chapel, New Albany.
