Funeral services for Thomas W. Wathen, 84, of New Albany, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Home, Market Street Chapel, New Albany, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. He died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services, New Albany.
He was a native of New Albany and was a retired employee of Paramount Plywood after 42 years of service and continued working at Mathis Pharmacy delivering prescriptions for several years. He also enjoyed his time as a Pearl Street crossing guard at helping the children at Lillian Emery School. He loved people. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Albany. He enjoyed Friday night dances at the VFW with his beloved companion, Marie.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Wathen; granddaughter, Skylar Hardister; his companion and best friend, Marie Schmidt; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma Jean Atkins Wathen, his parents, James and Marie Wathen, his brother, William Wathen, and sister, Rita Stark.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
