JoAn Luther, 83; of Indianapolis

A memorial services for JoAn Luther, 83,  of Indianapolis, former resident of Jeffersonville, will be at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Zion Evangelical Church, Indianapolis. She died suddenly Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012. 

 She was born in Tippecanoe County on July 29, 1929. She graduated from Klondike School in 1947, worked as a champion typist in Lafayette and married her husband of 48 years, the late H. Daniel “Dan” Luther on Sept. 20, 1952. After Dan completed a civil engineering degree at Purdue, the Luther family moved to Jeffersonville. They were members of the Faith Lutheran Church and were involved in many community organizations. She was a highly talented artist and musician. Her oil paintings are broadly displayed across many states. Her professional piano playing remained in high demand, even into this last Christmas Eve, at Santorini’s Restaurant. She conducted, sang in and toured the U.S. with multiple choirs for several decades. Her knitting skills won many blue ribbons in the Indiana and Kentucky State Fairs.

Survivors include siblings, Robert Haderle and his wife, Mary Lou, Caroline Wright and her husband, Gordon, and Nancy Vonic; children, Mark Luther and his wife, Kathleen, Paul Luther and his wife, Anh, Ann (Ron Jackson) Luther and N. Beth Line and her husband, Jeff; grandchildren, Neal, Tilly, and Alex Luther; Danielle, Derrick and his wife, Sarah, Jenny, and Dan Luther, and Ashley Trowbridge and her husband, Chris, and Lacey Duncan; and great-grandchild, Chloe Trost; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Evangelical Church, 603 N. New Jersey St., Indianapolis.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion Church.
