Mary ‘Evelyn’ Hankins

86; of Carmel

— A memorial Mass for Mary “Evelyn” Hankins, 86, of Carmel, will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Danville. An internment will take place in the spring in St. Joseph Hill Cemetery, Sellersburg. She died Dec. 28, 2012.

 She was born in Sellersburg on May 21, 1926, to the late August and Mary Agnes Eckert. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education at St. Benedict College in Ferdinand, as well as her Master’s Degrees in Education Administration at Indiana State University and Theology at St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minn.

   Survivors include her daughter, Susie Hankins Crandall and her husband, Ken; brother, Jack Eckert and his wife, Mary; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Hankins; nine brothers, and one sister.
