Charles Eugene “Charlie” Tomes

72; of Memphis

— Funeral services for Charles Eugene “Charlie” Tomes, 72, of Memphis, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Adams Funeral and Crematory, Henryville, with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery. He died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at his home. 

Born on June 26, 1940 in Kentucky, he was the son of Earl and Beulah Duvall Tomes, who are both deceased. On Nov. 24, 1960 in Charlestown, he married Betty Threlkel Tomes . A lifelong resident of Clark County, he attended Henryville High School where he played on the basketball team. He retired as a self-employed independent truck driver for more than 45 years. He also owned C & S Golf Cart Sales & Service in Memphis. He was a Christian, enjoyed fishing, restoring old antique tractors and was an avid IU fan. 

Survivors include his wife, Betty Tomes; a son, Todd E. Tomes and his wife, Michelle, of Charlestown; a daughter, Cindy Heil and her husband, Steve, of Henryville; three grandchildren, Jenna O’Rourke  and her husband, Rob, of Hawaii, Jared Heil, of Henryville, and Lily Tomes, of Charlestown; step grandchildren, Alysia, April, Lane, and Hunter; and one brother, Jerry “Hap” Tomes of Memphis.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and after 9 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
