William ‘Bill’ Allstatt

88; of Beech Grove

— A celebration of life service for William "Bill" Allstatt, 88, of Beech Grove, will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Ave., Indianapolis, with the eulogy given by the Indianapolis Fire Department at 3:30 p.m. He died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013.

 He had been an Indianapolis Firefighter for 40 years when he reluctantly retired due to health problems. He was very passionate about his job and loved to play tennis. He won many awards, including medals from the Police and Fire Games and the Senior Classics. He loved the beach and he loved helping others. Most of all, he loved his family with his whole heart. He was an outstanding man.

He is survived by his two devoted daughters, Judy Allstatt and Debbie Long and her husband, Jim; and two grandchildren, Shelby and her husband, Ralph, and Adam and his wife, Kristin. He also had seven great-grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as "the great one" and two special family friends, Melba Moore and Cheri Thompson. He will be forever missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Forstel Allstatt,  one brother, and his wife of 50  years, Mary Waldo Allstatt.
