Derice Griffith Hatfield Sr. 96; of New Washington

Funeral services for Derice Griffith Hatfield Sr., 96, of New Washington, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Grayson Funeral Home in New Washington with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery. He died Saturday Dec. 15, 2012, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany.

He was born Aug. 27, 1916, in Paris, Ky., to William and Epsie Feeback Hatfield.  He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of the First Baptist Church in New Washington and the New Washington Masonic Lodge No. 167, a retired security guard for Tube Turns in Louisville, a former greeter at Walmart and a retired farmer.

Survivors include his daughters Linda Sue Balmer and husband Jerry of Charlestown, IN, Janice Lynn Hatfield of Jeffersonville, Martha Carol West and husband Jerry of Underwood, and Virginia Schindler and husband George of Nabb; sisters Betty Aguiar of Fairburn, Ga., and Mildred Laughlin of Scottsburg; 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Leah Hatfield; son Derice Griffith Hatfield Jr.; one brother; and three sisters.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
