Elizabeth ‘Charlotte’ Mattingly Carter

85; Charlestown

Funeral services for Elizabeth “Charlotte” Mattingly Carter, 85, Charlestown, will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 27, at Grayson Funeral Home, Charlestown, with burial in Charlestown Cemetery. She was born June 18, 1929, and died at her home in Charlestown, Thursday, June 19, 2014, with her family by her side.

She worked for several years as a private legal secretary for several lawyers in Jeffersonville and Louisville. She ended her career as the legal secretary for the late E. P. “Tom” Sawyer. She enjoyed her trips to their condo in Pompano Beach, Fla., loved water skiing on the waters of Crystal Lake and the Florida sunsets, but Indiana was always where she called home.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Aubrey D. Carter and her daughter, Elizabeth Faye Carter, both of Charlestown; and cousins, Cathrine Johnson and Myrtle Mattingly.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Mattingly, sister, Evelyn Gray, and her son, Phillip B. Carter.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
