Anderson gives thanks for Haven House supporters

Every year, it seems as if we plan to not be busy at this time of year, but we are.

There are 74 people at Haven House’s Williams Emergency Housing Center. We have a lot to be thankful for — the many supporters who bring food, clothing and supplies — and those who come to participate with us and support what we do, and each other.

Without much fanfare, we have continued to serve the homeless of Southern Indiana. It is very much a miracle that we are still open.

The dedication of wonderful staff and volunteers, the persistence of those who come to help and the comfort of knowing we have tried to do the best we can under difficult circumstances has been what has kept us going.

As we pray over the food we share with each other this holiday weekend, we would like to thank many, including the following: Robbie Valentine, Jeffersonville High School’s intramural girls basketball team; Northaven Elementary School; Georgetown Elementary School; Clarksville Middle School; Jeffersonville High School’s basketball team; Northside Christian Church; East Park Place United Methodist Church; The Crossing; St. Paul’s Episcopal ( New Albany and Jeffersonville); First Presbyterian; Sacred Heart/St.Augustin’s; the Montessori School; Gilt Edge Baptist Church; Bethel AME; Wesley UMC; the Rotary Club of Jeffersonville; the Green Tree Mall; Home Depot; Lowe’s; Gordon Food Supply; Tyson Foods Inc.; Bowles Mattress Co.; the Scott County Partnership; the Jeffersonville Township, New Albany Township, and Charlestown Township Trustees; city of Jeffersonville; and the many others who have stepped up to help us continue to serve.

Many prayers and good thoughts have been sent and thank you for the calls, cards and letters. They mean much as we struggle to survive.

It has been a blessing to provide to Southern Indiana’s poorest people and I thank you for the opportunity. As we move forward, please know we continue committed to serve and ready to house, we need your help and support and we thank you for all you do daily.

— Barbara Anderson, ED, Haven House Services Inc.
