CURRAN: Overdue as I say; economy hits hard

They said banks and other lenders, in order to get more cash, were raising minimum payments. That is sure going to be hard on people’s budgets. Turns out, it is super-hard on ours. Note to creditors: good luck with the whole blood and turnip thing.

CUMMINS: Relying on the GDP to make us happy

How are we ever going to attain happiness if the Gross Domestic Product keeps dropping? A key component in the pursuit of happiness is having the resources to shop to the extent that we’re bumping into masses of rude people, who are also pursuing happiness, but grossly grouchy in the process. Relying on a growing a GDP to make us happy is like relying on a weather forecast when planning a picnic.

DODD: Dodd on Parade 2008

LINDON DODD: Good afternoon ladies and gentleman. And welcome to the 2008 Annual Christmas Parade on a frosty morning on Court Avenue in downtown Jeffersonville! Today’s parade is going to be something special. In honor of last season’s political courthouse junket to New Orleans, this one will have a combined Christmas/Mardi Gras theme. Our very special co-host is the lady who made a cosmetics bag a staple item for dog and swine owners across America: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin!

JOHNSON: Keeping things light-hearted

Since it is Thanksgiving weekend, I thought that a little light refreshment — rather than the usual heavy fare — would be an appropriate way to observe the holiday.

VAN HOY: What’s in a column?

A recent column by Doug Olson sure got some of you riled up. We received many letters to the editor shaming Olson for the content of his column about Barack Obama — published Nov. 21 — and us for printing it.

KOZAROVICH: Thanks to all for a great year

Like many of you, I have much to be thankful for personally. Professionally speaking, many of us had bumpy years as the belts tightened and bad news bombarded us. However, earlier this week, I started jotting down a list and discovered I had much more to be thankful for professionally than I realized.

It is that time of year — Thanksgiving. It’s a time to reflect on the things in our lives that we are most grateful for. This year has been a real mixed bag for many of us.
