NASH: Government at work

The first thing the next morning I made a call to the New Albany Stormwater Department. The person that answered the phone took down my information and said he would look into it. He was familiar with the location and said that it was a common one for people dumping old furniture.

When I came home from work that afternoon I drove by the creek and saw that the mattress had been removed. Some time within my eight hour shift the mattress had been removed from the creek.

In both instances I called a government agency and got service beyond what I was expecting. They were each courteous and listened to my problems and said that they would be taken care of. Both problems were resolved to the degree that I expected and both were done quicker than I had imagined that they would be.

I know there are horror stories of government employees or agencies that don’t live up to expectations of service.  I know that I have had my share of run-ins or disagreements with different departments.  I understand that there are definitely some bad ones out there but there are plenty of good ones around too.
