NEWS AND TRIBUNE LETTERS — For Jan. 2

A way to get healthy this year

Indiana ranks 41st in the nation again this year in the United Health Foundation’s annual rankings of overall health. And our state is in the bottom 10 in the nation in obesity, smoking rates, diabetes, cancer deaths and heart disease.

This lowers the productivity of workers and increases the cost of health care.

There are things that you can do to improve your health and quality of life by changing your eating habits, stop smoking and exercising more.

Studies show that exercising 20 minutes three times a week will lower your cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure.

You also can join the Charlestown Walking for Better Health group. Beginning Monday, Jan. 6, the group will be walking the halls of Charlestown Middle School between 4 and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Just come and sign in each day and walk at your own pace. It’s free and you will feel better and could lose weight. If you have health issues, check with your doctor before exercising.

For more information, call me at 812-256-2900.
