CHEERS AND JEERS — For Oct. 13-14

— CHEERS

... to the official start of the college basketball season.

Indiana University — and other less important area teams — kicked-off practice Friday. With Indiana ranked No. 1 in many preseason polls, Cody Zeller getting preseason love for player of the year, a stellar returning cast and a top-ranked group of athletic freshman.

It should be a fine year for Hoosier fans, although this will be the first in many to bring actual expectations with it.

CHEERS

... to the volunteers who gave time and money to help start rebuilding homes in Henryville this week via Habitat for Humanity.

I’m sure the workers put a smile on the face of many prospective homeowners.

READER JEERS

... to Mr. Greg Mengelt for wanting to cancel the Bosse/Providence football game — as he mentioned in a column — so he can meet his deadline.

He needs to put the blame where it belongs. A Friday night deadline for Saturday, Sunday, and sometimes, Monday edition of a newspaper, is ridiculous.

— Jerry Bischof, New Albany
