NEWS AND TRIBUNE LETTERS — FOR AUG. 13

— Spay Neuter Services of Indiana is offering $10 spays and neuters to help pets, pet owners and caretakers. The half-price special is available to Indiana residents with limited incomes and those who receive public assistance.

Our Pet Friendly License Plate Committee, appointed by SNSI, oversees the distribution of funds from Indiana Pet Friendly license plate sales which make this program possible. We are extending the program until Aug. 31.

Let’s prevent unwanted litters now. Puppies and kittens can be spayed as young as six weeks or two pounds at certain veterinary clinics. Because males can cause reproduction and females can become pregnant while very young we urge pet owners to plan surgeries for four months of age, depending upon their veterinarian’s recommendation.

Additional information regarding the SNSI $10 offer and a list of participating veterinarians are available at GetThemFixed.org, where the application can be viewed and printed. Or call 317-767-7771.

The short simple application must be postmarked by Aug. 31. I urge animal advocates reading this letter to print out the application, make copies and provide those copies to Indiana schools, libraries, businesses and public assistance offices and maybe even offer to pay the $10 fee for someone who could use a helping hand.
