CHEERS AND JEERS — For July 12-13

... to the city of New Albany’s July 4th event.

New Albany should be very proud of the celebration it put on. There was a huge, happy crowd with many people here from Louisville because of the cancellation of their celebration of the birth date of the United States. I spoke with so many people who were thrilled with the traffic, parking, music, fireworks and atmosphere. Thanks, Mayor Gahan, and all involved (including Mother Nature) for the magical evening. Great job.

... to the person who found my purse in the parking lot of the Clarksville Kroger.

I had already gotten home in Borden when Kroger called me to ask if I was missing a purse. I rushed back down there, and customer service had it, safe and sound.

They said someone had seen it in the parking lot and brought it in. Everything was still intact. Thank you, sweet person, for doing the right thing. The good people in this world far outweigh the bad ones.

— Diana Hall, Borden

... to the Town of Clarksville for displaying the American flag along Veterans Parkway and its side streets.

... to those wholesale/retail establishments for buying and selling American flags made in China and to those who purchase these flags.

... to a young man who, coming from the Jeffersonville Township Public Library, offered to help me pull weeds in the median on Court Avenue today.

Jordan, you were polite, cheerful and helpful, and I do appreciate our opportunity to visit with each other as we cleaned out the weeds out in the median. I wish you luck in your adventures in the U.S. Navy, and I know you will make our country as proud, just as I’m sure your parents are already
