> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Henryville band boosters seek help in buying new truck

On March 2, our small community of Henryville was hit by an EF-4 tornado. Our town lost many homes, businesses and our school was very badly damaged.

Our school, which housed preschool through 12th grade, was no longer able to hold classes in its facility. We began the task of assessing the damage and loss.

People and businesses alike have come to the aid of purchasing new supplies for our school. One month after the tornado, we were able to resume classes in two different towns but our students (by grade) were able to stay together. Although our band room is much smaller than our students are used to, the band plays on.

The purpose of this letter is to tell you about another goal we would like to accomplish. During the tornado, the Henryville Golden Band lost both of their equipment trucks. The main truck was used to transport the band instruments, uniforms, guard equipment and props to all of our performances. The second truck was used primarily for storage. The goal that we are reaching for is to replace the main equipment truck. We are asking for your help in reaching this goal. Our former truck was a 24-foot Low Boy and we will replace it with a similar vehicle.

We are the Henryville Golden Band Boosters. Our organization is the main support of our music program, which includes band, chorus and guard. The music program receives about $2,000 per year from the school budget. The rest of the money is raised by the boosters. The boosters purchase large items — such as trucks, trailers and an ATV to use in our program.

The Henryville Golden Band is well known throughout Indiana for its “Tradition of Excellence.” Our bands and choirs compete in ISSMA competitions, which include marching, solo/ensemble and concert. Our color guard competes in IHSCGA competitions and our percussion competes in IPA competitions. These competitions take place all over the state of Indiana. We also perform in the Pegasus Parade and other local community parades and concerts.

Please help us continue in our tradition by helping us raise funds for a new Equipment Truck. We are a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization so your donation is tax deductible. All funds remaining after the truck is purchased, painted and set for transporting equipment will be moved into the booster’s operating fund to be used for the music program.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts, concerns and donations to our community, our school and our music program. Send donations to the following address and make checks payable to: Henryville Band Boosters Truck Fund, P.O. Box 123, Henryville, IN 47126
