CHEERS AND JEERS — For March 29-30

CHEERS

... to spring training.

Thanks to a Christmas and birthday gift from my girlfriend, this lifelong baseball fan made his first venture to the Grapefruit League in Florida for four games in as many days.

It was exactly as I hoped it would be — fun and relaxing, with much more access to the players than fans are normally afforded. My favorite team, the Houston Astros, even managed to salvage some pride by winning the last — and only the last — game of my trip.

For anyone who loves baseball like me, a trip to Florida or Arizona in the spring is a must.

READER CHEERS

... to Jeffersonville Sanitation Department employee Jim Worley and to another gentleman who stopped to assist Mr. Worley as he helped me out of the road and back into my house after I fell trying to move my trash can back into the yard.

I did not know it was icy and I took a hard fall, leaving me unable to get up on my own. That cold morning, these two gentlemen were my angles. Thanks again for your kindness.

— Cissy Hedge, Jeffersonville

READER JEERS

...  to Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore for his attempt to bully Jeffersonville City Councilwoman Connie Sellers via text message during the last council meeting, in what seemed to be a temper-tantrum response, if not a veiled threat, to having the validity of his Florida travel claims questioned.

After all, It is the council’s responsibility to ensure that expenses like this are germane to city business, and she hardly deserved to be attacked in such a nasty way.

— Cathie Wheat, Jeffersonville

READER JEERS

... to whoever has left their laundry — in the form of a sheet of landscaping fabric — hanging on the beautiful rock face that runs along Paoli Pike in New Albany.

The entrance to the Knobs looks like a tenement. It’s time to take the laundry down. It’s been over two years now; can’t you figure out that nothing is going to grow on the rock wall?

— Susan Ryan, Floyds Knobs
