CHEERS & JEERS — For Aug. 24

... to the Henryville parade planners.

Henryville always honors its country by having a color guard lead its parades. The other cities should follow suit.

Also cheers (and tears) to having the Moore, Okla., participants in the parade; what a thoughtful idea.

— Marjorie Cox, Henryville

... to the injustice to Floyd County.

I live in Floyd County and we are forced to pay for the third trial of David Camm when he was already found guilty of murdering his family in the first two trials.

Floyd County does not have the budget to pay again. Justice would be Camm paying for his own trial.

— Jackie Baumann, Sellersburg

Editor’s note: Both Camm convictions were overturned by a higher court. The third trial is ongoing in Boone County.

... to all the people responsible for bringing the traveling Vietnam Wall to Clarksville. They did a fantastic job and deserve to be applauded.

— Charlie Wyzard, Clarksville

... to Floyd County YMCA and Floyd Memorial Hospital.

These two organizations have an ongoing dedication to the well-being of our community. Given the touchy, iffy, even unpopular and political nature of health care in our society today, both the Y and FMH continue to bring wellness screenings to the community, most free of charge.

Recently, a free skin screening — hands on performed by a leading dermatologist in our town — detected basil cell skin cancer which I will have excised this week.

— William Longest, New Albany

... to the New Albany Police Department and all officers involved in the outstanding police work done in the case of the double homicide of Gary Henderson and Asenath Arnold.

Gary’s Horse Drawn Carriage rides was a big hit at local events. He will be missed.

— William A. Heishman, New Albany, former Harrison County Sheriff
