NEWS AND TRIBUNE LETTER FOR MARCH 2 — Event organizer gives thanks

— Although I initially spearheaded the Rock for Recovery event in honor of my son, it was not about just him. It represented all of the countless young men and women who have lost their lives to addiction, and for the young men and women who struggle with their sobriety daily.

Addiction adversity affects a wide spectrum of our society and touches so many families in our community. As a committee, it is our hope that the funds and awareness raised in Rock for Recovery will provide not only an opportunity to help them rebuild their lives drug free, but that we as a community care. We support and encourage them to follow through with their sobriety because life is a gift, and the community as a whole will prosper if we work together.

With that said, we were so fortunate to have area business owners come forward with a sponsorship investment supporting a drug free community. I truly believe in supporting our area business owners and they certainly blessed us by making this benefit a reality. We were able to raise close to $20,000 for the Serenity House building fund. It will cost about $1 million for the center to be built. No one person or organization achieves success without the help of others.

 The following business owners were truly neighbors helping neighbors. Please thank them by reaching out to them and consider their business first.

We were blessed to have a wonderful presenter: Rich Ragains; customer service presenter, and an outstanding auctioneer in Lincoln Crum, who seems to always be the first to volunteer for every worthy organization needing his help.

Three great bands provided the “wow” factor for the event: The River Shyne Band, The Juice Box Heroes and Honkywood.

The food was outstanding. So many people commented that the caterers and restaurants that participated were the best of the best. I knew that going in, but I was so happy to see that so many people were able to appreciate their food as well. Kudos to the following: Adrienne & Co.; The Orange Clover; Charcoal and More; Cluckers; Stumler’s Catering; Chardeau’s Catering; Terry Lynn’s Catering; Davis Nursery Catering; and Sancho Miguel’s Salsa.

We had a live auction with generous contributions of their talent from local artists Guy Tedesco and Dixie Busby, and the generosity of Scott Davenport, head men’s basketball coach at Bellarmine University.

It takes a village and that we had. More than 60 silent auction items were available. Donations from area business owners and banks made that possible. Without the help of our local community none of this would have been possible.
