CHEERS & JEERS: April 26-27

READER CHEERS

... to the NJROTC Rifle Team, who are State Champions.

They won the “Sporter” State Championship this weekend at Purdue University.

Congratulations to Meghan Poff, whose essay is the state winner for the National Peace Essay Contest. She is now in national competition and could win a trip to Washington, D.C.

Congratulations to Chris Street, who is our Teacher of the Year candidate.

READER JEERS

... to editor Shea Van Hoy for his unpardonable complaint concerning the Blue Angels jet noise at Thunder Over Louisville practice.

He should don his red, white and blue patriotic cap and give thanks that he lives in a nation where he can initiate his juvenile objections without retribution.

To any real American, the noise made by the Navy Hornets happen to be enjoyable. To a veteran, it isn’t noise, it is the sounds of freedom.

— Col. (Retired) Tom B. Bodine Sr., Jeffersonville

READER JEERS

... to the Democratic Party of Clark County, which continues to back the re-election of Judge Jerry Jacobi.

After being the only administrator of a Indiana Drug Court to have his leadership taken away, he not only embarrassed himself but also the residents of Clark County. Look past the embarrassment, but keep in mind the huge amount of money that Clark County is going to be out when the class action suit is settled for the participants whose civil liberties were disregarded. Also, look at the money that was wasted keeping the participants in jail months longer than necessary.

Most people have forgotten the scandal of past years in his court where another member of his staff was used as a scapegoat and Jacobi was not held responsible. Once again, Jacobi has put his own political goals above the law and has made decisions that have hurt Clark County politically and monetarily.

This time, Susan Knoebel, who was only following his directions, has been made the scapegoat, and again Jacobi acts blameless. It is time for people to recognize his responsibility and for him to be voted out off office. If he is re-elected the citizens of Clark County have no one to blame but themselves for his continued bad actions.

— Karen Young, Clarksville
