CHEERS AND JEERS — For March 9-10

(Continued)

CHEERS

... to the crack of the bat and the hum of the seams of a blazing fastball.

Baseball season is upon us, as Spring Training is a few weeks old for big league teams in Florida and Arizona and colleges are already on the field.

Before the Louisville Bats begin April 4, hop on over to the expanded Jim Patterson Stadium at U of L to check out the No. 5-ranked Cardinals baseball team. All home games — with the exception of April 2 against Kentucky — are free to attend.

The team has 36 home contests on the schedule, with the next coming this weekend against Alabama. Check the U of L website for some great promotions as well.

CHEERS

... to Indiana University men’s basketball seniors Derek Elston, Jordan Hulls and Christian Watford.

It’s been a long, crazy ride for the trio, who are the faces of the successful rebuilding effort at IU as members of the first recruiting class brought in under coach Tom Crean.

But, the three have persevered, worked hard and have been rewarded with success. And, if things fall right, they may end their careers with a win in early April.

READER JEERS

... to President Obama for blaming Republicans for the sequestration.

If he didn’t like it, he should not have signed the Budget Control Act of 2011. Once he signed the bill, it became his cross to bear. If it was truly important to the president, he probably shouldn’t have taken his golfing vacation with Tiger Woods two weeks ago.
