New Albany man admits to child sex crime

Offender in jail on $150,000 bond

FLOYD COUNTY — An 18-year-old New Albany man is in jail after admitting to an investigator that he had sexual intercourse with his girlfriend’s 12-year-old sister.

Andrew C. Nifong, Indiana Avenue, has been charged in Floyd County Superior Court No. 1 with class B felony child molesting.

The child’s father reported to an investigator with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department on April 4 that the alleged crime occurred earlier in the day when Nifong was babysitting his daughter and 7-year-old son at their Greenville home.

The man said his son told him he had seen his sister “laying naked on [a] bed and that Andrew [Nifong] was only wearing a shirt” and was engaged in a sex act, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The investigator reported that the girl also told her mother that she and Nifong had sex at the same time and place as the boy had told his father.

Later in the day, Nifong was interviewed by the investigator, at which time he admitted to having sex with the child.

“[Nifong] states that he was aware that [the girl] was 12 years old and that this was not the first time they had sexual intercourse,” according to the affidavit.

Nifong said the intercourse had always taken place at the family’s residence.

After the interview, Nifong was transported to the Floyd County Jail where he remained Wednesday afternoon under a $150,000 court-cash bond.
