Southern Indiana child found in Mexico

Scott County boy to be reunited with his father

SCOTT COUNTY — A 3-year-old Austin boy and his mother, who has been charged in abducting the child, were both located Wednesday by law enforcement in Mexico.

The two were found outside of Tijuana by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Marshall’s Service Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force working in conjunction with the Indiana State Police and the Austin City Police Department.

ISP reports Aedan Daehnke was abducted by his mother, Amie Sandlin, Aug. 11 following a custodial visit.

The child had not been seen or heard from since his abduction and was listed on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s website.

Mexican authorities along with the United States Marshall’s Office Fugitive Task Force from San Diego, took the woman into custody, and she was extradited back to the United States.

Daehnke was taken into protective custody by Child Protective Services of California and is awaiting the arrival of his father to take custody of him, ISP reported.

A felony warrant was issued out of the Scott County for two counts custodial interference and escape issued for Sandlin’s arrest Aug. 15. The warrants were issued after Sandlin failed to return the boy to his father.

Sandlin will be extradited from San Diego to Scott County.

The New Albany City Police Department and Scott County Prosecutor’s Office also assisted in the investigation, which is continuing.
