Jeffersonville police: Fire in home where two people found dead intentionally set

Evidence rules out possibility of third person being involved, police say

JEFFERSONVILLE — Jeffersonville police said today that Saturday’s house fire where two people were found dead of gunshot wounds was intentionally set.

Jeffersonville Police Detective Todd Hollis said the positioning of the bodies and evidence of accelerants in the home’s bathroom has ruled out the possibility of a third person setting home to the fire.

First responders arrived at the home at 3001 Starview Court about 2 p.m.

Hollis said two firearms were also found in the bathroom, where the remains of Morgan J. Julius, 26, and Courtney R. Grimm, 27, were discovered.

He said ballistics tests will have to be performed to determine which of the guns had been fired before emergency responders entered the home and found the bodies.

Julius and Grimm were the only occupants of the home, Hollis said, and the two had been a couple for less than a year.

Julius is the son of Jeffersonville City Councilman Dennis Julius, who also has announced his candidacy for the 2015 Jeffersonville mayoral election. Calls to the Julius family were not returned as of press time, but Dennis Julius did post a comment on Facebook.

“I would like to thank all of the Jeffersonville fire and police for their compassion and professionalism in our family’s hour of need, as well as all so many friends for their love, thoughts and prayers,” signed by Dennis, Vicki and family.
