FBI, New Albany police investigate online Derby scam

Business had an address on East Market Street

NEW ALBANY — The Louisville Division of the FBI has received information about an alleged an Internet-based ticket and hotel package scam involving DerbyDeals.com, according to a news release from the FBI, and the scam reportedly involves a New Albany business. The FBI is seeking the public’s assistance to identify additional victims of potential fraudulent activity associated with the purchase of tickets or ticket packages from this website.

Anyone who believes they were defrauded by DerbyDeals.com, please contact the Louisville Office of the FBI at Louisville.ls@ic.fbi.gov.

In addition, the New Albany Police Department reports that on May 2 it was contacted by numerous people claiming they had been duped after making online purchases of tickets and hotel lodging for this year’s Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby.

“When the people arrived in the area they were told that they did not have hotel reservations and/or tickets for the races, or the tickets and the lodging provided were not at the level or quality they thought they had paid for,” according to a NAPD news release.

The department’s preliminary investigation revealed the Internet site, derbydeals.com, where the purchases were made conducted business with a listed address at 815 E. Market St. in New Albany.

“An individual associated with Derbydeals.com has been identified as Scott Davis of Jeffersonville,” according to the release.

The Floyd County Jail reported an individual of that name was not in the facility Wednesday, when police issued the statement.

NAPD also reported that it has been in contact with the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the FBI.

“Those federal agencies will be assuming the lead role in the investigation due to there being multiple victims and jurisdictions involved in the matter,” according to the release.
