A TAGGING PROBLEM: Serial graffiti found in Jeffersonville

Police investigate recent vandalism

JEFFERSONVILLE — The Jeffersonville Police Department is continuing to investigate recent acts of graffiti that has left a mark across the city.

Graffiti was discovered at the construction site of the new Jeffersonville Police Department along 10th Street and at area businesses.

JPD Detective Isaac Parker said Wednesday that investigators are looking into several instances of graffiti that have been reported and several more graffiti markings that were discovered by officers.

He said the graffiti has been located in central and the eastern section of Jeffersonville.

Parker said he could not comment on the continuity of all the graffiti acts, but confirmed that several of the markings read “MOAR.”

He declined to confirm what the department believes the graffiti represents, or any alleged suspects.

“We don’t feel it would be in the best interest of the investigation to disclose all of what all we have discovered,” Parker said.

He said the graffiti found at site of the police department was painted on office trailer.

Tony Singh, the owner of Valero gas station located at the corner of Allison Lane and Middle Road, said his business was recently vandalized.

Singh said he became angry when he found “MOAR” painted on his business. He said he has owned the business for nearly 10 years and this is the only case of graffiti on the property in that time.

Singh is expecting to spend several hundred dollars to make the repair, which requires a specialized paint made to match the building.

Hank Jenkins, a manager of Pizza Hut along 10th Street, said he purchased paint from nearby Rural King after finding similar graffiti on the side of a Dumpster enclosure structure on the property.

Like Singh, Jenkins said the graffiti took place on a Saturday several weeks ago, but wasn’t sure of the exact date.

“It was odd,” Jenkins said of the vandalism. “But, we just painted over it and went on with our day.”
