Police: Charlestown man found running naked, drunk in public

Subfreezing temperatures didn’t deter exhibitionist

CHARLESTOWN — A Charlestown man was found running naked outside of his downtown Charlestown home about 2 a.m. Sunday morning, police reported.

David Simmonite, 25, later told the arresting Charlestown Police Department officer that he had drank “at least five shots of whiskey and four or five beers,” before he was located unclothed on Market Street in front of his home, which is located next to LT’s Bar.

Before Simmonite was taken into custody, the officer reported seeing Simmonite naked in the middle of Market Street and he then ran through the front door of his home.

“Before I could exit my car, the same suspect, still naked, ran back into the middle of Market Street,” according to the police report, followed by a note from the officer, “NOTE: the outside temperature was 29 degrees with snow and ice on the ground.”

According to the report, Simmonite was seen a second time running back into his home, but this time he was followed by two police officers.

The officer also reported that he recognized Simmonite from his previous encounters with police.

In the home, Simmonite compiled with the offices’ orders to get on the floor. Police then determined Simmonite had a strong odor of alcohol, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.

Simmonite was then allowed to dress himself, which proved difficult for the drunken man, police reported.

“While he was putting his pants on, he almost fell several times due to losing his balance,” according to the police report.

He was then handcuffed and had to be physically escorted to a patrol car to keep from falling down.

Simmonite returned a .27 blood alcohol content, more than three times the legal limit for motorists, during a portable breath test.

He was preliminarily charged with public intoxication, a class B misdemeanor, and public nudity, a class C misdemeanor.

In 2011, Simmonite pleaded guilty to a public intoxication charge and served 58 days in the Michael L. Becher Adult Correctional Complex.
