Gibson trial jury selection begins

Trial scheduled to begin Oct. 21

LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. — Jury selection has begun in the trial of an accused serial killer in southern Indiana. William Clyde Gibson was arrested last year and charged in the murders of three women.

Gibson will stand trial first in the death of Christine Whitis, 75, whose dismembered body was found in Gibson’s New Albany garage. Prosecutors and defense attorneys begin jury selection for that trial Monday in Dearborn County, located along the Indiana-Ohio border, north of Cincinnati. After selection, the panel will then be brought to New Albany for the trial, which is scheduled to begin Oct. 21, according to news-gathering partner WAVE 3 News.

If convicted, Gibson, 55, faces a possible death sentence.

Gibson is also accused of murdering Stephanie Kirk, 35, and Karen Hodella, 44. Kirk’s body was found buried in Gibson’s backyard. Hodella was killed more than a decade ago, and her body was discovered near the Ohio River.
